French Women Don't Get Fat

You can say that I am one of those people who thinks she would be much happier if she is French, or at least live in France. Heheh.. Call me whatever you want, I love them and I admire their culture (ok, except those well-known personal hygenic issues) :p

The author of this book is Mirielle Guiliano (Mee-ray Julie-ano :p), she is the president of Clicquot, Inc. the producer of the fine Veuve Clicquot champagne. A typical, classic French woman, she basically shares her secrets, or rather the French women's secret to looking good. Unlike the other Europeans, French women are petite and they don't really have those striking features like Scandinavians. It is their confidence and the way they carry themselves that make them really attractive and very very sexy.

I personally enjoyed reading the book as Mirielle takes readers to her childhood (briefly) then how she got overweight as she reached her teenage years and discovered the secret of Leek soup to detox. She currently resides in New York with her husband so this book also covers many comparisons between the eating culture in America (that most of us are more familiar with) vs French. Some highlights or secrets from the book:

1. Concentrate and enjoy the taste of your food when you eat. This will make us feel more satisfied. If you have been to France, you will notice how slow their service is in restaurants or cafes - it is their culture to savour their food.

2. Dark, fine chocolates are the best. Those 'American' chocolates (ie - Hershey's, Mars, Reese, etc...) have a lot of other ingredients (ie - lots of milk, sugar, nuts, caramel, etc..) that carry much more calories and fat!

3. Boil a pot of leek soup on the weekends. Eat nothing but drink the soup all day. Eat the boiled leek when you feel hungry. Great recipe for ultimate detoxification

4. Walk - unlike Americans, French women do not go to the gym. They enjoy walking, burn calories in indirect ways. Mirielle herself loves taking the stairs instead of elevators

5. Do not diet or you will end up binge-eating or deprived in this form of pleasures of life. Mirielle weighs her food. She enjoys eating, she does not stop herself from enjoying desserts, she just takes them in moderation.

There you go.. a little 'sneak-peak' of the complete recipe to becoming a French woman.. get yourself a copy, because you're worth it ;)
